This is one girl who knows how to multi-task ‘cos she slays music & fashion at the same damn time! 👏
She’s the ⭐ of the latest episode of our Culture Conversation series.
We asked her a few Q’s to get to know her better…
After a stint as a Financial Consultant what inspired you to switch gears to music? 🎶
I’ve always been passionate about music, since I was a kid; I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in music. So after taking DJ lessons, I managed to build my brand up enough to leave the bank and pursue a career as a DJ.
What was your big break?
Getting a weekly feature on YTKO assisted in catapulting me into a mainstream DJ, as well as joining 5fm a year later.
You’ve worked with the who’s who of your industry, who do you admire the most & why? 👌
I admire a few DJs and producers in the industry, but I think one of the best producers we have is Maphorisa. He can make a hit in any genre and has provided hits for the majority of 2018.
In the face of obstacles, what motivates you to keep going? 💪
My mom is my biggest motivator and she makes sure to remind me why I’m in this industry and she reminds me that I have bills to pay lol.
Most memorable moment in your life that influenced your career?
It was playing for the first time at a club in Durban and my laptop crashed, I had to use someone else’s laptop and I managed to rock the crowd. What it will always remind me of is that you need to learn to adapt in every situation but never let them see you sweat.
Advice for aspiring young women who are keen to pursue a career as a DJ?
Hard work will get you where you need to be, keep practising and innovating!
